This week I lost a competition. In the great competition of having good luck at an airport, I pulled the short straw. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone. My entire plane of co-passengers leaving San Jose, California on Monday morning were right alongside me. We were all supposed to be in Dallas, Texas by 12:30pm to either catch connecting flights or spend time with family and friends in the city. Our plane had mechanical issues, so we waited. We waited, and we watched the next full flight to Dallas take off without us. And then we waited some more. We waited patiently, as the next full flight to Dallas left, full of passengers who had arrived at the airport some six hours after us. And then we waited some more. Finally, one last full flight of passengers, a group of travels who had arrived 7 hours after us, had the privilege of leaving before us, and we waited. It felt like we were the losers of the airport. We had been there first, but it didn’t matter. That morning, our plane lost the lottery, and so did our travel plans. Eventually our plane was fixed and we departed California to arrive in Dallas at almost 9:00pm. We spent the night in a hotel, on the airline’s dime, and eventually arrived at our final destinations the next day.
In the fogginess of a never-ending travel day, particularly while watching other planes to Dallas have priority over ours, it was hard not to feel the pressure of competition and comparison. Why did the other passengers have a perfect travel day? Why were we not given their plane so that they could be delayed? Why did airplane seats seem to be such a high commodity? As I waited in the uncomfortable airport chairs, I found myself envious of passengers boarding other flights, no matter where they were going.
In the end I got where I need to go: I made it home. I was given an opportunity to practice patience and flexibility. But more than that, I completed my travels with a sense of relief. Relief that life isn’t like waiting for an airplane seat. Let me explain.
There’s no competition for your life’s purpose.
Literally, there is no competition for your life’s purpose. So you can stop waiting around for your “time” to come and you can stop wallowing in jealousy of others whose journeys you covet. No one is going to the same place you are going. Your journey is unique. Your purpose is distinct and irreplaceable. This is good news!
It is when we live with the freedom that we are not actually in competition with others that we are catapulted to a higher level of excellence in fulfilling our great purpose. I want to help ignite the excellence in you.

Here’s a testimonial from Carissa Shaul, a recent graduate of Breakout:
Trish Blackwell’s BREAKOUT program changed my life by helping me to take off my blindfolds and put a compass into my hand. It is an extremely well rounded program that allowed me to gain insight into how to truly put an end to self-defeating habits, set a clear intention for what I want out of my life and create a roadmap to getting there. Since starting the program there have a number of break through that completely changed the course of my life. I put an end to an old, comfortable, unsatisfying relationship that was going no where and created the space I needed to meet the wonderful, inspiring person in my life now. I embraced a new level of confidence at my current profession and was promoted to a position with more responsibility, more traveling and more opportunities to lead. I have started a one-year plan to undoing irresponsible financial decisions in the past and see financial stability and planning as a part of who I am now. But most importantly, I have greatly reduced negative self-talk and have become my own biggest fan. Living in a world where the voice in your head is a positive, supportive one is absolutely priceless. I think differently about myself now because I choose to love myself unconditionally. My life now is light years away from where I was last year, or even just prior to the program. Having someone amazing in my life that I actually feel worthy of is something I only would have dreamed of before. It is still scary to be leading high energy Yoga Sculpt classes, playing a higher role at my job and taking the beginning steps to working with women in recovery on their own health and confidence goals – but I just keep moving forward and doing it. I learned what my strengths are and how to best use them to continue on the path to success. Initially, I was a little skeptical about the program, I loved the Confidence on the Go podcast and Trish’s book but the financial and time investment for BREAKOUT didn’t seem like a good fit. I finally took a leap of faith and went with my gut instinct to just go for it and it was worth every minute, penny and then some. We can all live meaningful, powerful lives if we just take the first step in choosing to invest in ourselves. By surrounding ourselves with positivity and a clear plan we are unstoppable. Embracing Trish as a mentor and coach was one of the best decisions I have ever made. BREAKOUT is a complete guide to starting a journey of self-discovery – the possibilities are endless. I am so grateful for the experience and for the shifts that have taken place in my life because of it.

As Judy Garland would say, “Always be a first rate version of yourself and not a second rate version of someone else.” Go be the best version of yourself today, and remember, you aren’t in competition with anyone. You are in a league of your own, and that is something to celebrate today!
Confidently yours,
Trish
