99.9% of photos published in magazines are airbrushed. Yes, you read that right. 99.9%. The famous now have paid publisits and re-touchers / photoshoppers to be part of the arsenal in their entourage; to exist and thrive in their fields nowadays they simply have to have this type of controlled publicity and image. If you doubt my statistics, check out the interview “The Photoshop Effect” by Diet Health on YouTube where a professional photoshopper was recently interviewed. The extent to which photos are retouched is beyond expectations, significally changing the entire look and shape of models and actors, creating an unattainable image of perfection.
With practically every image that we seen being retouched, it’s no surprise that 51% of 10 year-old girls go on a diet, 78% of 17 year-old girls “unhappy with their bodies”, and 67% of grown women are significantly insecure in their weight and body-image. When 54% of women would rather be hit by a truck than be fat, we know that we have a serious problem in society.
We have to remember that our perfect skin, toned abs and $500 hair extensions are not what make us beautiful; our real beauty shines through in our personality, and, as the photo above so beautifully states, YOU CAN’T AIRBRUSH PERSONALITY. It’s time to stop comparing yourself to the images you see in the media and to start realizing that they are fake photos. Your personality is what really makes you beautiful, so start embracing that aspect of you and letting it shine.
