What do you do? This is a great question for a Monday morning, as many of you will be reading this from your office of where you “do” what you do.
What do you say that you do when people ask you? Obviously this means that typically you are answering an occupational question, one that describes your profession, or what you do from 9-5. We are so much more than we we do between the hours of 9 and 5, so why is this so often the go-to answer in social situations?
I have struggled with this sort of self-description for years now. To answer the “what do you do” question, my answer riddles out like a registrar: I’m a personal trainer / life coach / author / writer / blogger / podcaster / athlete / confidence coach / app developer / fitness director and manager /online entrepreneur... you can see where I get tripped up. In short though, the better answer for me is much better. I get people to their goals. Period.
Hi, my name is Trish and I get people to their goals.
What is it that you really do both inside and outside of your 9-5? Are you doing what you want to do between the hours of 9-5 and is that congruent with who you really are and who you want to be?
What you do between 9 and 5 doesn’t define who you are, but it certainly is a reflection of who you are. The lives we live, the careers we create and the things that we do on a day to day basis all make up our legacy, and legacies last.
Make sure that you love doing what you do.
Make sure that you let the you that you really are shine out in what you do.
Make sure that the things you are doing today are going towards the legacy that you want to leave tomorrow.
Rock your Monday!
Trish
