My dad loves sending me forwarded email chains, comics, and political jokes. I get a few from him throughout the week and about a dozen from him over the weekend; it’s a great father-daughter way to connect and laugh together even though we are apart.
This comic strip was his weekend submission and is most definately his interpretation of the value of washboard abs. Not the most athletic fellow (he has more of the jolly Santa look going on), my dad does appreciate a good fitness joke from time to time.
What I love about my dad is that he knows that washboard abs are not what define a person. While they are nice to look at, and a great accomplishment to achieve, they most definately do not determine someone’s fitness level or personal worth. In the midst of media saturated America, we often forget this basic truth. Washboard abs are very far my my dad’s dream of a happy life, and for someone who works in the Fitness Industry, that’s a nice reminder to have.
Enjoy moving your body this week for the sake of moving it. Stop aspiring for washboard abs and focus instead on true fitness and health; the abs will come in time.
