Every destination is really a journey, and every trip is never the same. My favorite thing to do is to go where I have never been, just like the picture below states. Today I travel to Miami South Beach, somewhere I have already been, but the beauty of travel is that no trip is ever the same. Therefore, I can take as much pleasure in every delicate detail of the adventure with my crazy friend Nicole as if I was traveling to somewhere I had never been before.
Herman Melville once said about a place that “it is not down on any map; true places never are.” I love this. True places are places of the heart. They are experiences, they are flavors, they are the intangible and indescribable elements that saturate the air of a new location, of an airport, or of an adventure. These are the places to which I love to travel — places in my heart, mind, and memories, places that change me for the better through the experience of traveling through.
Nicole has mandated that I take only a carry-on, as I have the tendency to over-pack. We will travel lightly, arrive with vigor, and wake up before dawn to prepare for the 13.1 mile race that we will be doing at 6:00am on Sunday morning.
What I love most about traveling with Nicole is how spontaneously adventurous she is. Traveling with her reminds me of the days when I traveled through Europe without a care in the world. It is this type of travel that changes me, revives me, and makes me come alive. How do you travel through life? Are you focused on the destination or are you enjoying the journey? All I know is that the journey is the most fun element of travel, and life is no different.
