THE TEN MINUTE CUSHION

By TrishBlackwell on November 3, 2010 in Blog, Meaning, Movement

We live our daily lives without enough of a cushion.  The alarm clock goes off, we rush out of the house, we franctically squeeze in all your errands, we work eight hours, we make it to dinner, we have five minutes of free time and then we collapse into bed to do it all again.  We have allowed ourselves to be content functioning at a low-battery state when we could live fully re-charged.

What would your life be like with a ten minute cushion?  What if you have ten extra minutes in the morning to sip your cup of coffee in your own kitchen?  What would it be like if you didn’t rush from appointment to appointment all the time, and were able to move through your daily tasks in a relaxed manner?   How would you feel if you were fully rested every night and recharged throughout the day?

Think about ways in which you can add these time cushions into your life.  Your daily journey will be softer,  less stressful, more enjoyable and more rewarding.   It’s a win-win, you just need to take the initiative to plan your day accordingly.

My personal goal of the week is to add these cushions into my daily schedule.  I will have time to stretch in the morning, I will sit down and eat breakfast at the table rather than in my car, and I will plan to arrive to work ten minutes early so that I don’t have to feel rushed when I’m anxiously waiting at a stoplight.  All it takes is a little bit of planning and a little bit of mindfulness.  If I can (begin to) change my go-go-go schedule, then you can too!
