Pain is an inevitable part of life; more often than not, we spend more time worrying about pain than actually experiencing it. In wake of yesterday’s uncharacteristic East Coast earthquake, it’s easy to remember that anything can happen at any time. The story of pain in our lives and of how we triumph over that pain is what makes our personal stories more than just stories and more like legends.
We allow the fear of pain to personify itself into a monster inside our minds, and we lie victim to its power. Worrying about pain of any kind does not do anything. Whether your fear be physical pain, emotional vulnerability, natural disaster, or loss of any type, fearing it will do nothing to ease it.
How much easier and liveable would life be if we were to stop wasting energy worrying about the potential pain to come and we started believing in our own strength? We are strong enough and courageous enough to endure whatever pain comes our way, we just have to believe and trust ourselves, and stop wasting necessary energy in fearful anticipation.
Perhaps you are afraid of failure, maybe you are afraid of getting a tattoo, or maybe you are afraid of the hard work it will take you to get to your fitness goals, but whatever your fear is, just let it go. There will be points of pain along the way, embrace them and they will become integral to the formation of your character and your life legend.
