I have always been a horrible speller. As a kid, my mom taught me to remember the difference between dessert and desert by remember that two s’es together is a dessert, like a cake that you want to share since you have two of them; likewise, a desert was something you didn’t want to share, and thus, there is only one s in its spelling. And while I am grateful for this differentiation trick, I think my mom was wrong.
This past weekend at IHRSA flipped my mind on the subject. Fitness business pro and mentor Trina Gray shared an enlightening perspective on everything I have ever thought about “deserts” in my life. She said that while yes, when presented with a desert in life that is between ourselves and our goals, we can certainly make it across the desert fueled by our own determined will and perseverance. What most of us never realize though is that by inviting others to venture across the desert with us, we increase the rate of our success exponentially.
If you want to take a chance on your goals and dreams, then keep on trudging along through the heat of the desert on your own. If you want to have someone to pick you up when you fall down, to keep your spirits up throughout the prolonged journey and to get to the oasis of success faster, then don’t walk alone. Surround yourself with a support crew of people who aspire to the same level of greatness as you do.
Share your desert, and, if you do, before you know it,you will find yourself in the promised land.
