I woke up to a town rated to be the second most beautiful place in the world (ranking right behind Bora Bora) this morning and I haven’t been able to quiet my joy ever since. To say that Thira, Santorini is breathtaking is an absolute understatement. I have only been here for a few hours and it has already moved my soul by the immeasurable hospitality of its people and by its picturesque blue-topped church domes that line the steep cliff sides.
The beauty of Santorini is so overwhelming that it is humbling. I don’t deserve to be here; I don’t deserve the gift it is to experience such a remarkable place, but the truth is that life and every aspect of life is a gift. While I count myself among the luckiest in the world, I do not take my luck or my experiences for granted, for they are true gifts from above and not necessarily something that we can give ourselves. Gifts are to be celebrated, and the celebration becomes even greater when we realize how utterly blessed we are, because at times we can forget this. This type of humility grows gratitude to a measure that allows one to savor each and every small detail of a gift or experience.
This week, I am going to soak up every ounce of beauty that I can during my time in Santorini, for my time here is a gift that is not to be wasted. We are all surrounded by gifts and beauty — sometimes the beauty might not be as obvious and captivating as the views from a Greek Isle — but the beauty is there, in your life, today. Celebrate every ounce of beauty that you can find in your day this Wednesday.
