I hate not understanding things, and in an effort to always understand, I am an over-thinker. A mere coping mechanism, over-thinking something does not always give me clarity as there are simply some things in life that we are not meant to understand.
When I came across the above C.S. Lewis quotation earlier this morning, it nailed the hammer on the head of the subject I have been struggling all weekend to understand: that is, love. At the moment, my life is utterly over-abounding in love and it is so wonderful that I want to understand it perfectly so that I can hold onto life as such forever. C.S. Lewis reminds me that there are mysteries in life that are so complex in their simplicity that they are impossible to understand, and that perhaps, not understanding is exactly what we are meant to do. Why waste time and energy over-thinking when you can spend that energy enjoying the beautiful gifts of life that you have been given?
