The start of a girl’s weekend feels like a rally for freedom. The little girl in me gets excited over girls weekends with the same enthusiasm as I used to have when looking forward to a sleepover party. There’s something calming and renewing about escaping responsibility and connecting with females. No diapers to change.
KINDNESS: SUGAR FOR THE SOUL.
“When we show a kindness to others, it in some small way makes the world a better place.” -John David Mann, author of Code to Joy: The Four-Step Solution to Unlocking Your Natural State of Happiness The travel world, that is, the world within airports and planes, has a life of its own. An
THOREAU GOES TO PARIS.
Writing at airports makes the list of my favorite things to do. I have never traveled without writing, and airports, the ultimate mixing pot of people, languages, and cultures, is a hot-spot of inspiration. Travel makes my heart grow. It challenges me, it expands me, it makes me better. I am writing from Dulles
FOREIGN, YET HOME.
I feel at home in Greece. It’s an oddity, considering that I don’t speak the language, I am unfamiliar with the culture, and I have never been here. Somehow, I feel unbelievably at peace, and it isn’t just the fact that I’m on vacation. Home is where you are, that is, if
TRUE TRAVEL THAT CHANGES
Every destination is really a journey, and every trip is never the same. My favorite thing to do is to go where I have never been, just like the picture below states. Today I travel to Miami South Beach, somewhere I have already been, but the beauty of travel is that no trip is ever
IL DOLCE FAR NIENTE
Guilt is so “American”. If you have ever watched the movie Eat, Pray, Love, you will know what I mean in reference to the Italian phrase dolce far niente, or the “sweetness of doing nothing.” In the movie, an Italian explains to Liz (played by Julia Roberts) that the difference between Americans and Europeans is
SUPERHERO POWERS
If I could have one superhero power, it would be to transport myself instantaneously to where I want to go. This seems a bit contradictory for the girl who loves the act of travel, the soothing monotony of grey airport walls and the bustle of foreign passengers all aboard one plane, but it is what
THE METRO MAN
The New York City subway is many things: dirty, smelly, confusing, extensive, interesting and a world within a world. It is the life underneath one of the greatest cities in the world, and you could literally live there. I once knew a Watson Scholar who spent a year underground, living entirely in the different subway
DANCING ON COUCHES
Confidence is contagious. It is also magnetic. A life lived with confidence is a life that is maximized and lived to the fullest. The secret about confidence is that it doesn’t depend on circumstantial things like your physique, your clothes, or your position in life. Confidence is a choice. It is a decision you can
BLACK FRIDAY, CITY LIGHTS & DREAMS
No city in the world moves me that way that Paris does, but every city does move me in a different, special way. Black Friday shopping in D.C. and Pentagon City this morning with one of my very best friends Gloria made me realize that I don’t take advantage of my proximity to D.C. often enough.
