If you are not getting enough sleep, there is no way that you are able to give the world your very best. Moreover, if you have any semblance of a fitness or weight loss goal, lack of sleep might just be that one thing holding you back from the progress that you deserve.
There is no way for me to over-stress the importance of sleep, so let me just give you all of the reasons why not sleeping enough is shooting yourself in the foot.
Sleep = Success Reason #1:
Your body regulates important hormones while you are sleeping. Among those, leptin and grehlin, which are your hunger and satiety triggers. Not enough sleep? You’ll get a fine serving of out-of-wack hormones and misguided internal communication on your own hunger levels.
Sleep = Success Reason #2:
The body depends on sleep as a period to regenerate. In addition, this regeneration that comes during deep sleep has a significant impact on your basal metabolic rate, meaning that the more consistently you sleep enough, the more consistent and active your metabolism will be.
Sleep = Success Reason #3:
You’ll simply be a happier person. That should be enough in and of itself, but to add to it so that it’s irresistible, studies have shown that people are more attracted to confident and happy people. Yep, go ahead and make that correlation on your own. Sleep will make you more popular.
Sleep = Success Reason #4:
Getting enough sleep is like filling up the gas tank of your car. When your tank is full you will get more out of your day. You will have more energy to do the things that you want to do and you will probably do a better job while doing them because you will be attentive and well rested enough to be intently focused. In short, sleep is like an energy pill that delivers both energy and effectiveness. It’s a win-win.
Sleep = Success Reason #5:
Sleep just feels good. We like doing what feels good, so why is this so often pushed out of our lives? Let go of your superhero-complex and stop thinking that your worth (or happiness) is justified by doing more in a day than should humanly be done. Sleep forces us to live a balanced life, so stop stealing from yourself.
