A truly strong person does not need the approval of others any more than a lion needs the approval of sheep. -Vernon Howard
I’m a girl who thrives on affirmation. Nothing makes me feel better than when a coach, mentor or loved one tells me that I am special or that I have done a good job. Affirmation is one way that I feel love.
Be cautious with yourself when it comes to affirmation and make sure that you distinguish your need for affirmation from your need for approval. Affirmation and approval are not the same thing. I spent years seeking the approval of others, approval that I was good enough, skinny enough, pretty enough and smart enough, and, no matter how hard I tried, I always came up empty. We will never earn the approval that we are seeking from others, so stop looking to others to define you or validate you.
You don’t need the approval of others. Live with confidence in who you are and in how you are living and give compliments and affirmation to those who are journeying alongside you in authenticity.
