I got a phone call this morning that revived my soul. Angi Purinton, my spunky, crazy, fitness obsessed friend from France (well, actually Montana but we met in France), reminded me today that pretty is boring. Now in NYC, Angi has launched a mind-body movement called MYMA (“my maintenance”) that is grounded in helping people establish body awareness and balance in life through massage and fitness.
A firecracker personality, Angi’s energy always lights me up. She taught me years ago that pretty is boring, but I sometimes forget that until I talk with her, and am vibrantly reminded. She is so full of life and self-acceptance that I have been known to pee my pants in the streets from laughing and take crazy adventures on a whim across the world from her inspiration. Angi has a talent for making others feel beautifully alive, and it is a gift.
The truth is, pretty IS boring. Beauty, however is vibrant. Beauty emanates from within the skin and can be felt even through a phone call. Be beautiful in your unique self and be beautiful in ACTION. Let us stop aspiring to be “pretty” by societal standards and instead focus our energy towards just being our beautiful self that we already are. Stand out. Be unabashedly yourself. Let your real beauty shine.
