We are each given a platform in life, a platform that gives us the opportunity to fulfill our true purpose. If we strengthen our voice and message enough for it to be properly heard, then our platform in life will turn into a platform of gold, bright enough to attract and encourage others along the way.
Recently I spent some time with a friend in discussion about what sets people who make an impact in this world apart from those who don’t. That is, why do some people who are given great platforms of opportunity become replaceable and easily forgotten, while others are remembered forever, creating platforms of gold? Be it an athlete, a celebrity, or an average Joe, some people leave more of a mark on the world than others, and it doesn’t always make sense as to where this strength of voice comes from. In talking with my friend, we both agreed that there is something magical about those who make a difference with their talents, and I believe that this magic is the magic of authenticity. Authenticity changes a platform and takes one voice, and one life, and makes it monumental enough to impact millions.
Authenticity is unusual to find, simply because most of us don’t know ourselves, or the desires of our hearts well enough to be authentic. I think that Brene Brown summarizes the idea authenticity best with the below quotation; authenticity is a daily practice and a daily choice:
Authenticity is a daily practice. Choose authenticity means: cultivating the COURAGE to be emotionally honest, to set boundaries, and to allow ourselves to be vulnerable; exercising the COMPASSION that comes from knowing that we are all made of strength and struggle and connected to each other through a loving and resilient human spirit; nurturing the CONNECTION and sense of belonging that can only happen when we let got of what we are supposed to be and embrace who we are. Authenticity demands WHOLEHEARTED living and loving – even when it’s hard, even when we’re wrestling with the shame and fear of not being good enough, and especially when the joy is so intense that we’re afraid to let ourselves feel it. Mindfully practicing authenticity during our most soul-searching struggles is how we invite GRACE, JOY, and GRATITUDE into our lives. -Brene Brown
Practice daily authenticity: channel courage, compassion, connection, wholeheartedness, grace, joy and gratitude into the way you carry yourself. Live in such a way that your life becomes an uplifting means of encouragement to others, and, in turn, you will find yourself on a platform of gold.
