I felt amazing this morning. Equipped with eleven hours of sleep, a clean house and an attitude to own the day, I drove to work with a smile. After just a few minutes in the gym, I started feeling sick to my stomach. Crippling sick. Nauseous, and with the feeling of someone Indian-burning the insides of my stomach, I drove home.
After five excruciating hours of feeling like death, I finally feel alive again. It turns out that it’s not a good idea to take vitamins on an empty stomach, especially when you’re taking iron supplements. My iron overdose ulcerated the lining of my stomach (at least according to Wikipedia it did), and, let’s just say that it wasn’t pretty.
Being sick always fires me up for life. It forces me to remember just how blessed I am to be healthy. It makes me appreciate those who battle long-term illnesses and it humbles me with gratitude for the simplest things that I often overlook. Never forget that the greatest and most valuable thing you have in life is your health. Don’t waste it, and don’t take it for granted.
