I didn’t realize until today that opening my eyes every day is a miracle. Call me lucky, I just have just never needed glasses, or braces for that matter, and simply haven’t had to think about the inconveniences that come with different types of eye sight or crooked teeth. This morning I was discussing lasik surgery with my good friend Moe and she said something striking that stuck with me when she said that she can’t imagine what it would be like to wake up in the morning and be able to see right away. I had never thought about the fact that someone who wears contacts or glasses can’t see immediately when waking up in the morning the way I can. I have been waking every morning of my life with an under-appreciation for the true miracle that sight is.
Open your eyes wide enough and you too will see the unacknowledged blessings in your life that you have always had yet perhaps haven’t noticed. Life always looks different if you choose to look through a different set of eyes, and today that rocked my world. If I have never fully appreciated the blessing that my vision is, how many other obvious blessings do I have in my life that I haven’t given thanks for?
I challenge you today to open your eyes to a new perspective, and, as for me, I’m keeping my eyes wide open all day and you can bet that tomorrow morning, when I wake up, my first thought is going to be a thought of gratitude for what my eyes can see.
