I don’t know what I may seem to the world, but, as to myself, I seem to have only been like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst a great ocean of truth lay undiscovered before me. – Sir Isaac Newton
We are all surrounded by possibilities, many of which are ocean-sized that we sometimes don’t even see. Our possibilities are only limited by our perceptions, and our perceptions are only limited by our expectations.
Peter Drucker is noted to have said that “as a rule we perceive what we expect to perceive…the unexpected is usually not received at all. It is not seen or heart, but ignored. Or it is misunderstood.” The only reason that life ever becomes mundane is because we allow it to by limiting the possibilities of expectations within our thinking. We are content with simple expectations of pebbles and shells, whilst a great ocean of undiscovered truth is within eyesight.
Be bold and courageous in your dreaming and thinking. Expand your expectations of the “possible,” for it is it our expectations that drive our perceptions and our perceptions that direct our ability to see life for what it is: beautiful beyond our understanding.
