My future husband didn’t know that wedding favors are a thing. We are two months and a handful of days away from our nuptials and discussions of favors, DJs and catering are morphing into quite entertaining conversations. Honestly, how can you not smile when he thought the sachet of personalized M&Ms or the personalized matchbook were thoughtless extras that he happened to find on his table as a wedding guest? Needless to say, it’s eye opening to see what men notice about a wedding versus the details that women see.
It makes me wonder what I see in life that anyone else might not see, and vice versa. Neurologically, we are programmed to see and notice the things that we most often think about. If you are shopping for a Jeep, you will suddenly notice hundreds of Jeeps appear on the road that you could swear were never there before. Likewise, if your mind is consumed with thoughts about how your body compares to others, you will find yourself obsessively thinking about weight, shape and size with each person and face you see throughout the day. The thoughts we think directly form the person that we become. You literally have control over your present and your future by the thoughts that you choose.
Choose to see differently. Choose to train your mind to guard your thoughts, to kick out the negative, self-depricating ones, and above all things, to choose love. Loving others starts by first loving yourself, and loving yourself starts with choosing loving thoughts.
