Never in my lifetime did I ever think I would be as happy as I am today. You see, I discovered a life-changing truth a few years ago…I learned that happiness really is a choice.
It’s important you know that I was told along the way that happiness isn’t possible in life. I was taught that happiness is a lofty, selfish goal and instead I was encouraged to focus on making the most out of the life I’ve been given. However, I now know that there is an important distinction between making the best of life (aka “getting by”) and flourishing in the gift of life that you have been given. I decided to cherish the gift that life is rather than to “make the best of it.” This slight shift in my perspective changed everything for me.
I’m sure you’ve heard that happiness is a choice before, most everyone has. The problem is, knowledge isn’t knowledge unless it’s applied. Even though most of us know that happiness is within our reach, unhappiness pervades as the most common state of mind in our society. This unhappiness that weighs on us is self-manufactured. It is a form of self-oppression.
There is another way to live. Trust me. I’m living it. I have chosen happiness and my life is overflowing with joy, peace, confidence and purpose as a result.
So I ask you today, what are you manufacturing in your mind?
Happiness or unhappiness?
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale believed that a mind that dwells in happiness, therein lies a level of genius. He wrote, “Children are more expert in happiness than adults. The adult who can carry the spirit of a child into middle and old age is a genius, for he will preserve the truly happy spirit with which God endowed the young.”
You have the capacity to have a heart of a genius, and it all starts with the decision today to manufacture more happiness in your mindset. Manufacturing happiness is a simple three-part process:
[Step One]:
Choose to choose happiness.
[Step Two]:
Detox your mind of downtrodden thoughts, insecurities, and doubts that cause you to settle into an unhappy mindset and into a pattern of self-oppression, preventing you from living life to the fullest.
[Step Three]:
Make happiness your habit. This can be done in the simplest of ways. My favorite instruction is from H.C. Mattern, who kept the following “happiness guide” on a small index card and carried it everywhere he went:
“The way to happiness: keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Fill your life with love. Scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others. Do as you would be done by.”
I am confident that you can walk through all three above listed steps. To help you really succeed at “step two” of the happiness sequence, you need to do a total cleanse of your previous mindset and thought patterns. If you aren’t sure how to do that or where to start I have created the Insecurity Detox to help you.
Change what you manufacture in your mind with the Insecurity Detox.
