HOW TO WALK ON WATER.

By TrishBlackwell on July 19, 2011 in Blog, Meaning, Movement

Cycling is what I imagine walking, or really running on water feels like.  The world begins to move at an unnatural, smooth speed by you, and, simultaneously you feel both connected and free.  There is freedom on a bicycle that is hard to describe.  A bike permits you to enter a medium of the world that many do not know exist.  A world where your body exerts energy that becomes so rhythmic that you stop noticing the exercise and feel like you’re flying.

This morning, I flew.  As I weaved through corn stalk lined roads in Caroline County and whizzed by horse farms by myself, I watched my rotating feet hovering and circling above the pavement.  Cycling can be a contradiction: I often feel my body working hard to push forward, but more often than that I feel completely uninhibited and free, with any movement forward being effortless.

We all need to walk on water, to believe that we can do anything we set our minds to, and to experience life in another medium.   Get more out of your life: cycle, run, walk, move, skip, swim, high-five, jump, stretch.  Whatever it is, find an activity that makes you feel alive and do it.  Once you do, you will find yourself transported to an alternate reality that will be able to free your movements, your thoughts, and your anxieties.
