I wasn’t allowed to go to many New Year’s Eve parties when I was young; actually, I don’t know if it was that I wasn’t allowed or that I didn’t have many invitations. (Side note: I attended a boarding school that was four hours away from home, so at holiday breaks I always found myself hundreds of miles away from my school friends, and thereby possible celebration invitations…). Instead, I relished in the fact that I could say “See you next year!” to anyone and everyone that I saw on December 31st…just thinking about the change that a new year brings fascinated me. Even last night as I walked out of the gym, I giggled to myself when I wished my friends adieu with the token “see you next year!”
