WOULDN’T IT BE COOL IF ________?
Finish this sentence for me:
Wouldn’t it be cool if ____________?
So, what did you fill in there? What is it that you most want for yourself and for your life right now? What is that crazy idea that you can’t really believe is possible, but that you are willing to say, gosh, wouldn’t it be cool if _______?
Today, here in the United States it is Election Day. It is a day where our voices are tallied by votes. And it matters, every vote matters, yet only about 57% of eligible Americans vote. It makes me wonder what happened to the other 43%. Why did they decide that their voice doesn’t matter? Why did they resign themselves to letting other people decide the path of their nation? Why did they not show up?
I want you to know that you can be different. You can become someone who always shows up. Even if you haven’t shown up or spoken up consistently in your past, there is no better time to start than now. Show up. Speak up. You matter. The space you take up matters. The voice you have and things you think matter.
Don’t take this as a political email. It is not in the slightest. But, on a day where voices are collectively gathered across the country, I can’t help but think about what would happen if, instead of just speaking up on one day, if we spoke up for what we believe and who we are and what we want every day?
I know that you might be afraid to give your voice flight. There are a lot of reasons why – perhaps you were bullied, maybe your parents belittled your ideas, maybe your co-workers laughed at your last proposal, maybe you have failed at your weightloss goals so many times that you don’t want anyone to know that you still care, or maybe you just have never considered that your voice does matter. I don’t know why you are keeping your voice low, playing it small, speaking up only when it is safe, or unsure that you have anything to share in the first place, but I want you to know that the world needs you. You have a voice. You have a purpose. You have a place to make in history.
But
You must show up.
You must speak up.
You must be willing to be yourself in a world that is trying to make you someone else.
It’s not easy to do, which is why as your confidence coach I am always thinking about how to encourage you as you rise up and as you muster up the courage on a daily basis to face your fears and let your real light shine. That’s why I put together this week’s podcast episode of The Confidence Podcast on this exact topic. HOW TO GIVE YOUR VOICE MORE VOICE
Stop waiting for permission or validation and know that you have all that you need, right now, as you are, because of who God made you to be.
We are the only people silencing ourselves – and sometimes we can’t hear our own voice because we aren’t slowing down enough to listen to ourselves. We think we don’t have a voice or anything worthy to say because we are distracting ourselves, staying too busy and living “by accident.”
Start living “by design” and you will start realizing that you have something to give.
Practice speaking up – for yourself, for others, for your boundaries, for your opinions, for your believes.
Remember, not everyone is going to like you, and that’s a good thing. If you do anything that matters with your voice you will always have people opposed to you – creating resistance is a good thing. Learn to be okay with not being liked by everyone.
Resist the temptation to downplay your story. We were created by the most masterful of all storytellers – the being who created stories and crafted us to be drawn to them. We are not responsible for writing our story – we are simply responsible for showing up fully to allow God to do the rest. But we have to show up. We have to speak up.
Remember – it’s better to be in the arena – and your voice doesn’t have to be perfect. You make it perfect by speaking up, by wrestling, by being open to change, by getting dirty, by being uncomfortable, and ultimately, by knowing that by using your voice, you are speaking up for change, for good, for others. Your voice makes this world a better place.

HOW TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE CHANGE
Pick one area of focus.
Over-committing and over-complicating leads to overwhelm.
Set yourself up for victory by cutting your expectations in half.
Identify 3 small “guidance rules” within your one area of focus.
Be open to the experiment.
Experimentation, not perfection
Eager anticipation for an adventure, not expectation for mastery
Shift your mindset to the journey and remove judgement.
Have more fun as you go.
Resist punishing yourself or creating something you will dread.
Create a game in the process.
Take the pressure off yourself and be nice.
Don’t go it alone.
Prepare your mind.
Know your red flags and practice adjusting accordingly.
Forgive yourself quickly.
Believe in the reset.
Resist the temptation to see yourself how you used to be – be the new person you are now.
