I thought I had everything about health figured out. But I didn’t.
That’s why I had to share this email with you, so, #sorrynotsorry, because if you’re into health like I am, you’re going to want to read this. I hated learning what I’m about to share with you. I hated it so much that I dug my head in the sand and pretended it wasn’t true for a few months, but then I finally faced the music and I want to help you do the same. Ignoring this part of my health was the biggest health mistake I have ever made – and I am so glad that I am no longer making it. Read on and I will explain.
I have always been passionate about wellness, having committed myself to a career in fitness and confidence coaching and teaching others along the way that every small investment in one’s health makes a compound effect of a positive difference. I thought I had everything about health figured out. Then, when I became a mom I learned an inconvenient truth: that our personal care, cosmetic and household cleaners are filled with dangerous, and unregulated toxins, among which include known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. So, even though I was exercising consistently, eating organically and being intentional about my thoughts, I was unknowingly rubbing toxic chemicals into my body, which was contradictory to all of my other efforts towards wellness.
If you eat clean and exercise, but are ignoring this part of your health, you’re doing it all wrong.
Everything changed for me when one day, daughter Ellie spent a day on the beach, nuzzled up to me, kissing my cheeks with infant kisses in the ocean breeze. Baby kisses are special, especially ones from my little Ellie belle, but then I realized that Ellie had been practically drinking the ingredients of the lotions – the face moisturizer, the sunscreen and the body creams – I put on my body and I had no clue that they could be harmful to her, or to me for that matter. And harmful they are – most products, since the industry is unregulated, contain ingredients that are directly linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, metabolic disruption, infertility, among a list of others. It’s frightening and government regulation isn’t doing anything about it. It is up to us as consumers to know what ingredients to avoid and to start standing up for our own health.
Here’s the good news about the outraging statistics of negligence in the regulation of chemicals in our products: there is something we can do about it. First, we can educate ourselves. I personally abide by Beautycounter’s Never List, a list of ingredients that are known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. Secondly, we can choose to stop spending our consumer dollars on companies who make and sell unsafe products and we can start demanding that Congress, who has not passed a regulation law regarding the cosmetic industry since 1938, make some changes. The European Union has outlawed the use of over 1,400 chemicals in self-care products and the United States has only regulated 30 out of commercial use. We have a problem, and it directly affects our health and safety. It’s time we do something about it.
What I learned has compelled me not only to take action in #SwitchingToSafer for the products I chose for myself and my family, but further than that, I knew I needed to get involved and help educate others. That is why I am sharing Beautycounter with you. Making changes to what we put on and around our bodies can really make a significant difference in our overall health and wellbeing. Small changes matter. You matter. Your family matters. Together we can be more confident about the products we put on and around our bodies and on and around the bodies of our loved ones. For me, Beautycounter is the solution my family and I needed, and I think it might be just what you are looking for too.

Beautycounter is dedicated to product performance, just as much as they are to product safety. After trying countless non-toxic cosmetic brands, I can tell you that this combination of safe ingredients and products that work is extremely rare. Some natural cosmetic brands use only 100% organic ingredients. This is as pure as makeup can get, but often, the performance is lacking. While Beautycounter uses both synthetic and organic ingredients, they never compromise on the safety of the ingredients. Beautycounter has developed a groundbreaking and rigorous ingredient screening process, looking for data on skin irritation, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, cumulative exposure (are we exposed to this chemical from other sources) and more.
Like you, I am very passionate about eating a healthy, nourishing diet void of toxins and inspiring others to do the same. Changing out my personal care products was naturally the next step for me and I know it’s the right next step for you. Don’t negate all of the other good choices you are making about your health and wellness by ignoring this important areas of health. It’s hard to un-know something once you know it, so I dove in headfirst. I am thrilled to have discovered a brand that I love, trust and can really get behind!
