You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. -Rocky Balboa
I ran the Philadelphia Half Marathon this morning, and Rocky’s advice couldn’t have been more poignantly perfect. In honor of the race course, my brother Nick provided a pre-race viewing of the 1976 classic film Rocky itself. This morning, as I finished among the 25,000 other participants at the Rocky Balboa statue by the Philadelphia Art Museum, I felt more alive than I have in weeks. Crossing the finish with a new personal best time was incredible; proving to myself that I can hold a 7:00/minute per mile pace for 13+ miles and thoroughly enjoy myself all the while was extraordinary.
Go the distance in your life, whatever that might mean for you. I assure you that when you do go the distance with a positive mind — and when you give it all your heart — you have conquered more than the world, you have conquered yourself. Go the distance. Do that thing which you don’t think you can do.
