I wish I was a genius. Unfortunately, I have several limitations holding me back from mastering such an endeavor, one of which being that I am blond, generally impatient, and slightly ADD. Limitations aside, I still have the power of a genius if I create a circle of genius around me. Your circle of genius, or the people you surround yourself with, is indicative of how you will develop. Our mothers were right in saying that we become who are around, mothers are always right.
Todd Durkin, a significant leader and motivator in the fitness arena, taught me about this circle of genius in a presentation where he discussed the eight forms of wealth, circle of genius being one. While I have always known that I should surround myself with positive, uplifting people, I never called it circle of genius, and I love the precise simplicity of the phrase.
Everyone has the ability to be a genius if they follow their heart’s calling and purpose. Even Einstein knew that, and, coming from a genius, that holds great value. Find what you love to do, and do it with all your might. Create a circle of genius around you that will help lift you up to your highest calling in life — being yourself.
If you crave inspiration, surround yourself with motivational people and books. If you need encouragement on your fitness journey, befriend a personal trainer, sign up at a gym, create an online profile on a fitness website, or join a running group. Whatever you do, choose your circle of genius with wisdom, always surrounding yourself with people more enlightened and successful than you, for in turn, you will grow into excellence.
