There are days when I think I am superwoman, or at least I try to be. These are the days that I fail miserably. Many of us know this feeling. It’s the feeling you get when you take on too much, put taking care of yourself last, and then find yourself exhausted at the end of the day with the feeling that you’ll ever measure up or be good enough. Yesterday was one such day for me, even though I know better, I still fall into the trap of perfectionism.
I beat myself up when I fall short to these unattainable superhero expectations and it’s not a pretty sight. The real question to ask though is when is good enough enough? If you are constantly dissatisfied, or can never live up to your superhero expectations, it’s a question that you must ask yourself. Be honest with the answer too, because if you’re not, you’ll find yourself in a cyclone of anxiety and fear that will knock your breath away .
You are good enough. If you are working towards a goal, keep working towards it and remind yourself that nothing happens overnight. “Overnight successes” take weeks, months, years. Give yourself permission to live a balanced life. Over-committed and unrealistic expectations are not conducive to making you the best version of you possible, in fact, they do just the opposite. Live in the balance and with the certainty that working smarter (and not harder) towards the life, body, career of your dreams is more than good enough.
