The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours – it is an amazing journey – and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins. -Bob Moawad
Almost one year ago exactly I experienced a small, but monumental internal change. Last year, in response to an inspirational lecture by fitness industry giant and motivator Todd Durkin at the Perform Better Summit in Providence, Rhode Island, I had a personal breakdown. As with all breakdowns, it was actually less of a breakdown and more of a breakthrough. Breakdowns are simply a shattering of our current understanding that allow us to have a breakthrough for new thinking. New thinking is exactly what I walked away from after the Perform Better Summit in 2011.
My new thinking and newly reestablished courage propelled me into action. Action took me to San Diego for Durkin’s 3.5 Day Mentorship; it then cascaded into endless stepping-stones of progress that are getting me closer to my dreams, small step by small step. It is precisely when I stopped making excuses that I made progress. A year ago I finally got out of my own way, and in return I have had the year of my life. Too often our greatest excuse is the worst excuse of all: a lack of courage and lack of confidence in ourselves.
Now, only 365 days later, I have successfully lived a year without excuses. I have lived a year of “playing scared,” or following my heart no matter the self-doubt that I had to battle. As a result, I have made progress in both my personal and professional life that I could have never imagined feasible.
Make this year your year of progress. Get out of your own way and get moving on your life.
