Life every man holds dear; but the dear man holds honor far more precious than life. -William Shakespeare
The word honor sounds beautiful to me. I love the way it lingers on the lips when spoken, it has strength in its subtlety and it means so much more than I could ever comprehend. Honor is a word that forces my mind to dig into life and that makes me feel at peace with the world.
I have no true understanding of the honor and sacrifice that generations of Americans have given for my country and for my freedom. The type of honor that is demonstrated by our veterans and active military forces is so intrinsically woven into the fibers of their existence that it is not often recognized for the great display of love that it is. Honor is one of the deepest ways in which we can express love – the type of love that our minds struggle to articulate – it is the love that we act out by the way we live our lives. It is the most unifying and beautiful character quality that I wish to honor today as I honor my nation’s Veteran’s Day.
Live your life with honor. Be intentional about loving others, for it is in both the small and large things that we honor our family, friends and community through our actions. Honor isn’t always recognized and acknowledged – it is often taken for granted – but honor is never, never forgotten.
