I love eavesdropping, I have ever since I started studying languages. I am typically not interested in what someone is saying, but rather, I like placing a context to the person and identifying accents, quirks, and personalities. In Starbucks yesterday morning I overheard calm, frustrated mothers conversation with her teenage daughter. The morning had obviously been hectic and the mother-daughter duo was clearly not getting along, but it is how this particular mother reacted that inspired me. She calmly told her daughter that she was embarrassing her, and that since “being mad takes too much of my [her] good energy,” she asked her daughter to step outside to collect herself as an adult. It was a flawless and sincere delivery, and not an ounce of anger or negativity came through her voice.
I love the idea of vocalizing energy usage. This mother at Starbucks was able to stay calm and undisrupted by simply acknowledging out-loud that her good energy was not worth jeopardizing over negative emotion such as anger or frustration.
The energy and attitude that you have is always a choice, no matter the circumstances. You have control over whether or not to allow someone or something else to disrupt your good energy. The important thing to remember is that energy works reciprocally; you cannot have both good and negative energy at the same time, it’s either one or the other. Be in tune with your energy field on a daily, hourly basis and start making your own decisions and taking responsibility for yourself.
