My boyfriend and I ran the Marine Corps Half Marathon today, dressed like Batman and Robin. I have never been a particular fan of Batman, but, boys being boys, it was my boyfriend’s idea to run as the Dynamic Duo. Even though I explained to Brandon that this race was not in fact a costume themed race and that we would be the only people on the course dressed up, he persisted and won my commitment to dress up. The things we do for love never cease to amaze me.
Aside from the first few minutes of awkwardness, the idea wasn’t as bad as I originally had thought it was. Standing out in a crowd is possibly the quickest way to feeling like a mini-celebrity. For the entire 13.1 miles, we found ourselves cheered on not only by every spectator, but also by most participants that we passed along the course. We had onlookers humming the Batman theme, kids lining up to high-five us and every person we saw smiling. It was not just fun, it was ridiculously fun.
Life is meant to great beyond measure, so let your inhibitions down, don’t be afraid to stand out in a crowd and get your Batman and Robin on.
Be ridiculous and have some ridiculous fun just being yourself.
