I wish I could know the future. Often, as I consider my passions, my family, my business, and well, just my journey and progression through life in general, I yearn to know what lies ahead. I think we all do.
If only life were that simple. If only we could know how everything will unfold, but the truth of the matter is that life is exciting and exhilarating exactly because we don’t get to know what lies ahead. We were wired to indulge our curiosity about life and about the unknown and what I propose to you today is to let your curiosity open up and flourish freely this week.
As adults we often keep ourselves so over-scheduled and busy that we don’t give ourselves time to be curious. We intend to look up things that we find interesting, but time eludes us. We want to find more time to devote to journaling and to our own personal development, but we end up “prioritizing” time on social media instead. There’s no doubt – we all have time in our lives to allow curiosity back in, we just need to be aware of our need to prioritize it. Here’s the thing: curiosity matters. Curiosity promotes creativity, creativity births confidence and confidence gives us the freedom to be our true selves.
Watching my little eight-month old Ellie fill with wonder at the world around her gives me a daily nudge to nurture and foster my own curiosity. Ellie’s eyes marvel at every new thing she discovers and they sparkle with every new song or sound she hears. There is no agenda to how she explores the world – she just follows the trail of wherever her curiosity leads her that day, and I ask myself what might happen in my life if I were to commit to doing the same thing. More than that, what would happen if we saw our lives with curiosity rather than with judgement?
Explore your life with curiosity in the following ways:
Be curious about yourself.
Be curious about people around you.
Be curious about the world.
Be curious about those things that make your heart sing.
Be curious about how you can love others well.
There is power in curiosity and I promise that if you prioritize some more “you time” into your days, using that time to explore who you really are and where you are really going in life, you will experience life with newfound exhilaration and joy.
Confidently yours,
Trish
