I birthed a pumpkin baby yesterday. This was my first pumpkin baby, and actually my first carving experience, ever. (We didn’t celebrate Halloween in my family as a kid, so no pumpkins for me – don’t judge).
Yes, yesterday I carved a joie de vivre pumpkin. Nothing seemed more appropriate to me than to carve my favorite French word joie, or joy, into my first pumpkin. Apparently, pumpkins are reserved for scary faces or spookish wonder, but, then again, I’m not afraid to be different.
If you’re looking for a last minute costume today, simply put on or try out something new. It can be a simple as carving a pumpkin, trying a new type of workout, or putting on your real personality for the rest of the world to see. Remember: when you do something new, you don’t have to do it like anyone else. Don’t carve your pumpkins any other way than the way you want to.
Enjoy the simple things in life: I have never felt so much pride and pleasure in something simple than I had gently placing my pumpkin baby “joie” on the stoop of my front porch. Make your Halloween today about the simple things and savor the fun and laughter that this day brings.
Happy Halloween. Joie de vivre.
