Today is my mom’s 60th birthday; no topic is more deserving to be written about today than generosity, because that is exactly the spirit with which my mother raised both myself and my brother. My mother, as do many mothers, chose to be generous in her love towards us in ways that far exceed standard parenting. The uncountable sacrifices, the financial investments in education, and the small, sometimes unnoticeable acts of generosity that parents do by nature, all add up into one ball of generous love.
I think that with every year that passes we given more wisdom to see the depth of the pockets of generous love that has been bestowed upon us in our past. As Margaret Cho said in the above quotation, small acts of generosity, whether they seem to be noticed and appreciated or not, can change someone else’s life forever. We have all been changed by the grace of someone else’s generosity; let us never forget that.
To my mom, happy birthday and thank you for the thousands of ways in which you showered me with love when I didn’t even know it. To the rest of us, may we see the people in our lives with new eyes of appreciation. Let us all be ridiculously generous in all that we do.
