I watch people exercise all day. It’s my job; I supervise my staff of trainers and, essentially, I get paid to people watch. It is interesting to watch the human character that is revealed as clients are covered in sweat, struggling in pain and fighting exhaustion. This is where you really get to see what people are made of.
Today, while watching clients at 5:00am and 6:00am — not an hour I am ever very pleased to be awake at — I was struck by the beauty in one particular client’s happiness. She glowed, and it was not just from her sweat. As she dutifully followed her trainer Moe around, she had a certain magnetic energy that radiated from her eyes. Exhausted, she smiled at me when she passed my office. I thought to myself, that woman was born happy. After musing over this for a moment, I realized then that we are all born happy.
Too often, we want happiness, but we simply won’t allow it for ourselves. We secretly admire our outlandish friends and those that can dance like no one is watching. We cower behind our clothes, our insecurities, societal expectations and our own cyncism, just wishing that we could go back to the happy state we experienced as children, wishing to be that free again.
Stop worrying about what is “acceptable” and what isn’t. Choose happiness. Choose it because it’s in your nature, and choose it because today, you are alive.
Be that person whose energy field is captivating and inspiring: be happy.
