No city in the world moves me that way that Paris does, but every city does move me in a different, special way. Black Friday shopping in D.C. and Pentagon City this morning with one of my very best friends Gloria made me realize that I don’t take advantage of my proximity to D.C. often enough. The capital of the United States of America is at my fingertips, but how often do I take advantage of it?
What in your life is at your very fingertips that you don’t make the most of? Do you under-appreciate someone in your life, or perhaps do you criticize the area in which you life? Just because I can’t be in Paris at the Louvre every weekend, doesn’t mean that there is isn’t a beautiful local art museum that will bring me as much pleasure.
As Gloria and I head to New York City this morning to meet up with my other best friend from France, Angi (well, she is really from Montana, but we met in France, but that’s a whole other story), I am excited to experience and savour the city of lights of the big apple. The lights, the people, the bustling of holiday spirit and the diversity revive the spirit and, most importantly, the soul. Cities are places that make you believe that you CAN make your dreams come true.
Alicia Keys pays tribute to NYC in her song New York, and she couldn’t have said it any better: “concrete jungles, where dreams are made of, there’s nothin’ you can’t do….these streets will make you feel brand new, these lights will inspire you.”
Inspire yourself to dream today and take advantage of the great things you have around you right now.
