-Clean toothpaste in the basin
-Do what you want to avoid
WHY WE DON’T TAKE ACTION
We overthink.
We let fear win over faith.
We get distracted.
We don’t actually believe it will matter.
We’re too attached to immediate results.
We are concerned by what people will think – when it goes well and when it doesn’t go well.
We aren’t sure what to do.
We have a sloppy management of our gift of time.
POWER THOUGHTS
I take immediate action.
I am a doer.
I create movement in my life.
Little actions create big rewards.
I have raised my standards.
DO HARD THINGS
Be a person who leans into hard.
Most people avoid hard, and the avoidance makes it even harder.
Approach or Avoid.
WILLINGNESS:
Be willing to do things others aren’t.
Start by being willing to have a different relationship with “hard things”
All progress starts when you begin to tell yourself the truth.
Where are you not being all in?
Where are you not committed?
Where are you going for “good” instead of “great”?
Understand that you can’t avoid hard.
Hard things, when avoided become different hard emotions – the emotion of disappointment.
Hard or hard, which will you pick? Pick the one with the biggest result you want.
What have you been unwilling to do?
How have you been thinking about “hard things?”
-How you think is a form of communication – the communication and inner dialogue you have with yourself MATTERS.

The secret to success is to take micro action, and is to have a bias for action. I think we overthink and we intimidate ourselves with how far we have to go or honestly, we self protect by complicating things and making them harder than they need to be. And so because it's so complicated, because we have so much to learn and prepare for we then say well, I've got some work to do on it before I do it. I want to direct you, as your takeaway from today that you're going to do it, you're going to become a massive action taker those who train in themselves. This concept to self identify as a massive action taker, you in turn, you will increase your confidence, your self esteem, your self concept and, more importantly, your results. In this episode, we're going to talk about some mindset hacks that are going to help you train yourself into being a person who takes massive action with ease, and who gets the results that action brings. Now if there if you are on the treadmill or driving or out for a walk. And there's anything that I said that a link or a quote or something that resonated with you. Don't panic, you don't need to write it down right away. We have everything listed for you in the show notes. Our show notes are always kept at my website, you can go to my website, which is my name Trish blackwell.com/the Episode number you're listening to so episode 500 to 72. Now, this brings up another thing I want to mention to you. If you've noticed many of the podcasts apps limit the last 300 episodes, if you're curious of Gosh, what were the first almost 300 episodes and are they any good? Yes, they're good and they are still available. You just got to access them through my website. So that is all at Trish blackwell.com You can check it out for yourself. So but we're talking about doing micro action in order to get massive results. But more importantly today how to trick yourself into taking more action, and why our avoidance of action is actually false protection. Before I share any of that. I just want you to know today's a big day. Today's a big day, Episode 572. If you do the math on that, and you take 572 And divided by 52 you get a beautiful, even number. What's that beautiful even number? It's 11. Today is the 11th birthday of the confidence podcast and my family and I are celebrating in Puerto Rico. So that is where we ended up changing our trip. We are in Puerto Rico right now. And it's amazing. And if you check out my Instagram and my Facebook, which is Trish underscore Blackwell or Trish Blackwell coaching on Facebook, you'll see that we're celebrating in style so come check that out. Thank you to those of you who have been with me for 11 years. What again have privileges to be a voice of encouragement and consistency in your life. So, thank you. Thank you to each and every one of you who have shared the podcast with friends who have, who have shared it on social who have texted it to a friend that we are. I just checked the data we have reached and been downloaded and listened to in over 201 countries. It's mind blowing, because I need you to know, just a girl from Virginia, who decided to turn her mess into her message, who decided to be scared, I had no idea how to podcasts when I started. I didn't honestly even listen to podcasts, but to be transparent back in 2012, barely anybody did even listen to podcasts. And I made a decision, a very micro decision and this is why it relates to our coaching today. It was a very micro decision to say I will show up. I'm going to be a person who shows up in my life. I will show up every Tuesday period. Every Tuesday that will be a new episode of this podcast, and rain or shine. Birthing babies interestingly enough, do you know both my kids were born on Tuesdays. It's fun to actually I was born on a Tuesday my husband wasn't so he's the odd ball out of our family. We're a family of Tuesday births. But go back and check my kids birthdays. There were episodes on those Tuesdays now before you think oh Trish work life boundaries. Guys, I'm strategic I pre recorded I knew I had to batch content, but I still prepared in advance so that I can live a life without excuses. I can hold to my commitments without excuses. Because it's amazing. The excuses that that block us from the life of our dreams are often very justifiable. But you have to prepare in advance for the excuses that you know life are going to bring you that that circumstances will bring you that your brain will offer you and that's why we're doing the whole month of November in the college confidence called no excuses November and if you're ready to just be a person who can do life and just push through excuses and just do it anyway. You've got to get in on this coaching. We have some amazing, amazing coaching happening you can check that out at Trish blackwell.com forward slash no excuses. So that is happening. Our review of the week let's do it real quick. We'll dive into the coaching this is from sand dune 83 She said a soul confidence episode I love this episode. I'm a member of a different church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but the truths that Trish share are universal. I love her podcast in general and I have so many episodes saved that I lost counts. I feel uplifted in edified every time I listen to her thank you so much for the work you were doing. It is truly God's work and I feel him with me when I listen to your podcasts. Thank you. Thank you friend for that encouragement. You guys I'm a words of affirmation person. I thrive on them. I get fired up by them I am so deeply encouraged by them. Please know that when I can I get a review when I get a feedback. It moves me it comforts me and it helps me keep going so thank you thank you thank you might be me thinking well, she's got millions and millions of downloads. She's listened to all around the country. You would be surprised how few people tell me how few people take the time to write a review how few people take the time to just send Hey, this this podcast has changed my life. So I cherished those kind words. Thank you guys. Okay, let's coach man. Paulo Coelho said this The world is changed by your example, not your opinion. And Napoleon Hill is one of my favorite OG really personal development leaders in the early 1900s said this, don't wait, do not wait. The time will never be just right. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools we found as you go along. Zig Ziglar. I'm sure many of you have heard this quote. You don't have to be great to start. But you have to start to be great. Martin Luther King Jr. said, take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. To be a person who is confident you only need to see the first step. I think so many of us say well, I just if I had more competence than I would start. Now we start because we decide to be confident we start because we decide to trust our capacity, our capability and our ability to grow, improve, learn, pivot and figure it out along the way. So confidence is your belief and your capacity to do hard things. And to also it's your belief in your future self and your future selves ability to be able to see the next step on the staircase. We trust that whole process.
Speaker 1 9:56
And that's if we go back to this 11 years ago I was terrified, embarrassed, vulnerable, recording a podcast in my closet, because my friend at the time said, Hey, this is gonna be the best sound quality for you. And I had this little closet and it was so hot, I ended up sweating. And I think I recorded the episode like five times. And then I showed up. And I did it anyway. Because I knew that if I wanted a life that was made for more a life of impact a life that would would would fire me up, I needed to do things that other people were unwilling to do, which really wasn't that people. There's now there's 1000s, and 1000s, and 1000s of people willing to podcast, what I was willing to do, that other people weren't willing is to be scared. And now those of you who are starting podcasts, writing books, doing things, pushing yourself stepping into the discomfort zone, being willing to look a fool, being willing to not know what you're doing, being willing to be a beginner, it's humbling. The humility that you garnished from the journey is also a gift. Gandhi said this, The future depends on what you do today. I know you know that. But are you are you there's a difference between knowing and committing. There's a difference between wanting and doing. I was giving this example in a coaching session in the College of competence just just recently. And the differences between wanting to do something your life and being committed to doing something in your life are very, very, very different. And I think a very good examples to look at a marital relationship, I think about my my marriage as a core core pillar in my life, and I want to honor it, and I study marriage, I study how I can be a better wife, how my husband and I can communicate better, I want to sit at the feet of others, who can give me wisdom, where we can look. And we can really make effort to build a beautiful marriage, a legacy creating marriage together. So with that, in context, I am committed to being faithful to my husband.
Unknown Speaker 12:08
And so I, I filter my life based on that. I don't say, Wow, I really want to, I really want to be faithful to my husband,
Speaker 1 12:19
I'm working on being faithful to my husband, if you were my friend, you would like Trish girl. That's not how that's like dating. That's not what like a marriage. And so you know that in in areas of your life, you have decided to be committed. But there's areas of your life that you haven't yet decided that you're still saying, Well, I hope I can be committed, or I hope I can do this, or I'm kind of want this, I want some more financial freedom. I want my business to be successful. I want the true independence and time flexibility. I want to make an impact and start that charity. I need you to take your want to a commitment today. That and I think so many of us hold ourselves back because we go I don't know how to do it yet. I'm not confident enough yet. I'm not fit enough yet. I'm not skinny enough, yet. I don't have enough eloquence yet. Whatever your excuse. You're holding yourself back. And we aren't guaranteed the future I had a recent loss in my life of a friend's husband, healthy, amazing man who was an incredible human being healthy, died and asleep. And he's young. We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Living away. That someone says man that person's going forward. That That girl she's gone for life. She's all in she's willing to make effort. One of the most inspiring I think, interviews or speeches I've ever heard is Art Williams, just do it speech. He did it. I want to say it was in the late 80s or early 90s. And there's a new version that he has done and he it's on it's on YouTube. I'm gonna link it in the show. It's he redid the speech is a five minute segment, I'm gonna link it to the show from 2019 I cannot listen to this and not be fired up for life. I cannot listen to this and not want to take action I used to make my my personal training stuff listen to this on a consistent basis. And there's a reason our personal training staff broke sales records and sold millions of dollars of training in an area that that technically wasn't supposed to buy training. The future depends on the action you take today. So how do we create a bias for action when we're scared? When we're not ready? When we're not confident enough? You do it anyway. You acknowledge that you're not supposed to feel confident all the time you're not supposed to feel ready. You will feel ready and you will feel confident once the ball gets rolling. You know, it's interesting. I had an interview last week, and was so so privileged to hear this amazing feedback from Patricia drain. And she said this first thing she said, we get on to interview for her podcast. And she said, Trish, I just need to tell you first and foremost, your voice is velvety. And I like that feels like a jewel in my hand. And I say this, you need to know the context that 11 years ago, when I was recording, the biggest challenge of starting this podcast was hearing my own voice. I didn't like how I spoke, I had no understanding if my voice was significant, or different or unique, or how I just, I just knew that God had put it on my heart to and given me a resource to speak good things into people's lives. And that was podcasting. And I would have decided to be faithful to that. Even though I was scared, even though I couldn't listen to myself. I mean, I think I went a couple years and never even listened to my podcast app, like my podcast itself within the app, because I just couldn't hear my voice. Now I did have to suck it up, I had to suck it up. I would drink like a whole cup of coffee. And then I would go into editing because I did my own editing. And at that point, I did have to listen to myself, and I would cringe. But I said, like I just accepted this discomfort is part of the process. And I don't you know, there's been a good handful of you who have reached out and said, There's something about your voice, Trish. There's something about the way you speak and present an intonation and it feels inviting, comfortable? I'm not sure right? You need to know that I had no confidence in that. In fact,
Unknown Speaker 16:53
I thought I had an an annoying voice. And that I spoke too quickly to be understood. Now.
Speaker 1 17:00
I do have some enthusiasm. I have had some voice training since I have learned to slow down right and I'm but I'm still going to speak quickly. I'm not going to apologize for some of my passion. But the very thing that you might like the most about me is the very thing that almost didn't, almost kept me from starting. So what does that thing for you? What thing do you need to take action on? Now? How do we create a bias for action? A bias for action means when you're at a crossroads, you're just going to always lean to take action. And we do this by starting and saying I am setting a vision for myself as someone who has a bias for action. And to have a bias for action. You have to trust yourself. Practice having your own back, get obsessed with micro follow through, celebrate your immediate actions, believe that you make good decisions and have competence that there's no such thing as a wasted effort. This one's key for me. I chose to believe that there's no such thing as wasted effort. Therefore, I've been willing in my business journey to try new things. To try entire new platforms and to commit don't try for three days, I tried for a year for certain things I commits. And then I analyze and say, Is this worth my time? Was this a good investment of my time? What did I learn? And how do I want to move forward? And it's never a wasted effort, even if it doesn't end in what you wanted. Because you learn something always. If you're willing to ask the questions, if you're willing to reflect, if you just get defeated and frustrated and say oh, what a waste of my time, then you're never going to get the gold from the experience that you were digging. So many people are so close to getting gold in their experience and digging out a gem that's going to help them pivot in a really powerful way. But we get so overcome with disappointment and negativity and discouragement that we stopped digging, right when our shovels about to hit the gold. The quality of your life is really impacted by the quality of the questions you're willing to ask yourself. And so when something doesn't go the way you want, and you've been committed an effort to be able to ask yourself, what do I want to take away here? What about this was good? And what can be better? And also, one of the best ways to create a bias for action is this, this concept of micro follow through anytime you have a task that's one minute or less do it. Don't put it off, do it immediately. If you say to yourself, gosh, I need to pay my credit card at some point today. We all know that takes about 20 seconds to log in and do do it. Do it the minute you think of it. If you're walking by something messy in your house and you go off Gotta clean up litter, do a one minute cleanup, right that be. And then here's the key. Celebrate your media actions. Be proud of yourself. I used to sometimes I would walk by something messy, like I don't know, the dog's water bowl needed to be needed to be washed. And I would say, so myself. I'll do that tonight. And then I would catch myself. This is the process of becoming somebody who has a bias for action. I would catch myself I go, girl, we do it now. Picked it up. 32nd task, scrub, scrub, scrub, fill back with water A minute later, it's down. And here's the next step. Dang, I'm a good dog owner. Man, I'm gonna take an action. You have to be the voice that tells yourself good job. And you affirm the person you're becoming you affirm the micro effort, because a little things are the big things how you do one thing is how you do everything. It's what people don't see in your life that will make the things in your life that they do see, most stand out is what does being an action taker mean? It means you've decided to stop thinking and start doing you've decided to stop watching other people's lives and instead make your own great we are spectators to other people's lives. We watch people lose weight on TV. We watch people pitch their own businesses. And we don't even move hours forward. We just let ourselves be inspired by their story and don't take action on ours. Respect we spectate in social media and being an action taker means you start learning how to talk back to the what if the what if it doesn't work? What if I make a fool? What if I put this effort out? And it doesn't pay off? What if it's too? What if it's too hard for me? What if I can't do it? We've got to answer all of those what ifs because those what ifs are hidden excuses. This is why we're doing no excuses. November, the what if if? What if it's too hard? What if I can't handle it? So really the excuse there's, there are things that are too hard for me. It's just sounds too hard. That's an excuse? What if you're more capable, massively more capable than you ever imagined? So here's a fun way to do it. How do you trick yourself into taking more action? I want you to becoming an action taker and doing hard things simply
Unknown Speaker 22:34
is a habit. So you track your action, get a habit tracker, commit to the if it takes two minutes or less, do it. Get an accountability partner.
Speaker 1 22:50
Invest in coaching. We're getting a community where other people are taking action in their life. The reality is that only about 10% of people know that they can commit 10% of people are willing to make effort, the level of willingness has increased the Weller at what level of effort is there? Everyone else says that's too hard. I'm too lazy. I will do it when you have to decide, do you want to be the 10% or the 90%. Because the 90%, look at the lives of the 10% Go must be nice. And the 10% need to get good they get the privilege of saying it is because it's also a reflection of my commitment, my unwillingness to give up my willingness to take action, even when I didn't feel like who you surround yourself with matters. You don't know where to find a community like that. That is the community that we have in the College of confidence. You can find out more at College of confidence.com It's a month a month cancel at any time coaching program that we are so confident in, we have a money back guarantee. And then the final thing is one way to take more action in your life is to put more skin in the game. You got to invest, you got to invest in yourself. You got to make the reason to follow through compelling enough that you're willing to do it anyway. You're willing to do it when you're tired, you're willing to do hard things, even when you're hormonal or stressed out or tired. It do it anyway. I want to remind you that micro action habits generate massive action in your life. And you can do that with a couple strategies. Here I have three things one we've already mentioned if it takes less than two minutes take immediate action. The second thing is to time assign. We teach us in the college confidence how to how to time blocked timebox and time assign we have workshops on that. But it really means a sign of time to the task that you're doing for everything in your life. And you will see that you have more time than you even imagined. And you start becoming a person who invests time versus wastes time. And when you do that, and you start having control over how your knees feel, and how productive you feel, you'll stop falling into the pit of the excusive. I just wish I had more time, I would, but I don't have enough time. You don't need a lot of time to do micro action. That's the beautiful thing. And the final thing is to elevate your standards. Here's three simple examples of what it wouldn't mean to elevate your standards always make your bed, clean toothpaste from the basin. We're like your standards might be get dressed first thing in the morning. One of my standards that elevated my life was to wear matching pajamas that are beautiful, instead of old raggedy T shirts. Because when I changed some of these habits, it changed how I showed up for myself in little ways. In essence, do what you want to avoid. If you find yourself avoiding or procrastinating do that immediately. And so why don't we do that though? That's the real question. We overthink. We let we let fear win over faith, we get distracted. We don't actually here's the other sneaky thing, we don't believe that will matter. You don't think taking action is going to really pay off. And that's a belief issue. We can work that we have, we actually work on how to believe in things in the college competence. You've got to believe that it will matter. Because when you believe that it matters, and you believe that little by little big things get done. And you believe that there's a compound effect that comes as a result of your efforts, you will show up, you will be patient in the journey, you will not get discouraged that it's taking longer than you wanted it to. You'll know that today you did something that matters. And that's the reality we become too attached to immediate results. We're also too concerned by what people are going to think when it goes well or when it doesn't go well. You know, I got teased when I started podcasting lovingly by friends. It hurt, but they didn't mean any harm by it. I'm glad that didn't stop me. Now they love me. I mean, they've loved me the whole time. But now they now they'll share the show.
Unknown Speaker 27:38
You keep going by saying, watch me. Sometimes we don't take action because we don't we aren't sure what to do. Or, honestly, we
Speaker 1 27:46
have a sloppy mismanagement of our gift of time. I want you to start identifying as a person who does hard things, I want you to be a person who leans into heart because most people avoid heart. And here's the truth the avoidance makes it even harder. You've got to just decide in your life, are you going to approach things? Or are you going to avoid them? Because that's the fork in the road. I've got a couple of small power thoughts I wanted to share for those of you who want to start identifying as someone who does hard things, somebody who takes massive action. And they're simple and got them in the shownotes. For you, it's I'm gonna meet I take immediate action. I'm a doer. I create movement in my life. I have raised my standards, little actions, create PAYG rewards. I'm good at doing hard things. Don't overlook the simplicity of how these power phrases sound. They are powerful. I would encourage you to go to the site, write these down for yourself. When you elevate your willingness to do things that other people aren't doing, and you start being willing to have a different relationship with hard things. Things will change. You've got to understand that you can't avoid hard hard things, when avoided become different types of hard emotions, the emotion of disappointment. And so we kind of have to look at this like harder heart. Which one do you want to pick? The one with the bigger result is the one you should pick. Let's use weight loss as an example. Is it hard to lose weight? Sometimes, it's also simple. But it's hard to stay committed to what you've committed to. It's hard to track your food it's hard to wake up at 5am. If that's your workout time. It's hard to say no to candy when your kids come home from trick or treating. But it's also hard to be someone who hides in a picture. It's hard to wake up and beat yourself up for not for not being committed. It's hard to not like The body that you're in, it's hard to have to choose clothes based on what feels comfortable versus what makes you feel amazing. So hard or hard to, it's hard to be disappointed in yourself. So yes, it's hard to be disciplined. But it's also hard to deal with the consequences that lack of discipline, deliver. So when I started looking at my life like that, and I started looking at my business like that, yeah, it's hard to do the things I want to to reach more people to elevate my income. But it's also hard when I'm disappointed that I maybe had a month that was a plateau. Well, I'm willing to do the heart if it's hard either way, I'm going to do the hard that has the better chance of the bigger reward. And a question for you to think about before we close out. Is Where have you not been all in? Where are you not committed? Where are you going for good. Instead of great. All progress starts when you begin to tell yourself the truth. What have you been unwilling to do? What have you been thinking about? Hard Things? What are you ready to change? And what are you willing to do about it? I'm gonna leave you with that. Thank you guys so much. For those of you who share the show this week.
