DOING WHAT YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE DOING

In this episode, we’re diving into the often-dreaded topic of doing what you don’t feel like doing. We’ll explore practical strategies for overcoming resistance and building momentum, as well as the mindset shifts that can help us reframe our approach to challenging tasks. Whether it’s a daunting work project, a tough conversation, or just getting to the gym, this episode gives actionable tips for doing what you don’t feel like doing and achieving your goals.

In this episode of The Confidence Podcast, we’re covering:

WHAT HOLDS US BACK FROM DOING

Dread.

Fear.

Distraction.

It’s an emotion.

When you find out that you’re just afraid of the emotion, you’ll feel empowered to move forward.

ACKNOWLEDGE THE AVOIDANCE

Avoidance will keep you from your dreams.

-It keeps you small

-It creates a nature of delay in your character

-It shrinks the world that is available to you

Remember, we all know people who talk big. But you know the difference between those who talk big and those who actually implement and do. Be a doer. Be someone that when people hear you say something that you are going to do, they know you’ll do it.

Practice this on your own, in the smallest of small ways.

Excuses about your preferences will keep your potential buried.

-Stop preferring to “feel like it”

-Develop emotional maturity to know the difference between priorities and preferences

-Decide to be someone who doesn’t make excuses – and be proud of yourself every time you act as this person

Focusing on your lack will sabotage what you do have

-You have all you need right now to start

-Own the time abundance in your life – and create more

-Stop believing that you need to do it all on your own

BE WILLING TO FEEL THE “NEGATIVE”

Maybe your “negative” is more neutral, but it’s game-changing to acknowledge that it’s there.

For me it was always a low-grade buzz. A dull and droning sensation that I was just trying to make it through or to the end of something. I didn’t realize this was dread. Dread disengages me from me.

Now when I feel dread, I accept it.
I remind myself that by fully feeling it I am experiencing a full life.

I remind myself too that once I start what I am dreading, it’s not so bad.

It’s generally only 5 minutes of suck.

I got tired of feeling dread for 5 hours over something that really only stunk for 5 minutes.

Put your dread into perspective.

The best predictor of success is your willingness to be uncomfortable.

It’s not comfortable to do new things…

It’s not comfortable to believe in something that you don’t have proof will happen for sure …

It’s not comfortable to be different than everyone else …

It’s not comfortable to be willing to feel all of your feelings, the positive ones and the harder to feel ones …

It’s not comfortable to keep your boundaries and ask for what you want …

It’s not comfortable to keep your eyes in your lane instead of allowing yourself to be distracted by comparison …

But all of it is WORTH IT, because the success that you end up tapping into is MASSIVELY worth it … and the results you get, the ones that are SO GOOD, those ARE comfortable…and worth every bit of discomfort you have embraced along the way

Increase your willingness to be uncomfortable and you will increase the level of success you can access…

….you in?!

CREATE TRACTION AND TAKE ACTION

Create a track and take action.

Waiting for the perfect time is foolish.

  1. Decide to be an action taker.
  2. Acknowledge the action you do take.
  3. Be proud of yourself.
  4. Do not despise small beginnings.
  5. Surround yourself with action-takers.
