Podcast #495

DROPPING PERFECTIONISM AND EMBRACING B- WORK

The most successful people are the ones who are open to failure, not those who demand and expect perfection. The act of dropping unrealistic or perfectionistic pressure that is often associated with being driven is easier said than done. This podcast episode will teach you how to actually embrace B- work, be open to failure, and to still show up with focus and high standards at the same time so that you achieve more with more ease than you ever thought possible.

In this episode, we’re talking about …

  • What happens to your happiness levels when you drop perfectionism
  • The difference between perfectionism and excellence
  • How to achieve big things, be driven, have high standards, AND embrace B- work.

BIRTHDAY NOTE:

Y’all, today I’m 39. What a gift – the gift of aging. If you haven’t listened to my episode on how to age beautifully, be sure to listen to episode #443, How to Be Happy About Aging.

BIRTHDAY ANNOUNCEMENT

I have something new.

It’s available from today through May 31st.

This is a limited-time opportunity.

If you want a better mindset, and to feel less anxious on a daily basis, but keep struggling to make the time to journal or do the thought-work I suggest, this is for you.

It’s called The 5 Minute Club, and it’s the solution you’ve been looking for.

We’ll meet live, for 5 minutes every morning, for a month, and we’ll journal together.

I’ll lead the group with timed journal prompts and guidance on creating an affirmation of the day.

We’ll all journal together.

As a community.

You can have your camera on, or keep it off.

You can share some wins in the chat, or never share anything you write.

You can be sure that you will journal daily.

You can be sure that you will master your mindset for the day.

You can be sure that you’ll stick to your morning routine.

The 5 Minute Club has guided mindset mastery in minutes, with some faith and thought reframing thrown in.

As with everything I offer, it’s risk-free to try.

Join us, and if you don’t love it in the first 7-days just let me know and we’ll happily refund your money.

Joining the 5 Minute Club for the month of June is just $30.

Go to www.trishblackwell.com/club to find out more and to be part of the first group in our journaling community.

REVIEW OF THE WEEK:

Game-changing.

Jessben88

This podcast has aided me so much in changing my mindset.  The words year speak are true, I know this because I have applied them. We matter. I matter. Thank you.

MY B- BIRTHDAY LIST

Reviewed last year’s list – I didn’t complete the list.

And I only achieved about 80% of what was on the list.

That’s a B-.

And it was quite possibly the happiest year of my life.

I am both someone who keeps their word to themselves and someone who accepts incomplete dreams because I’ve learned to focus on the GAIN instead of the GAP.

In my 38th year, we…

Took two different week-long trips to different beaches

Took a 5-day family trip to Breckenridge to snowboard

Took a week-long trip to Disney

Took a week-long trip to Rome

Took a week-long trip to Crete, and booked a cliffside villa

And I just booked a weekend trip to London for me and Brandon.

In business I …

Reached more people through my podcast than ever before

Increased business profits by 50%

Worked with more boundaries and better focus

Published a new book and hit the #1 Best Selling Spot in my category on Amazon

Gave away more money than I used to make just a few years ago

Expanded my money mindset and my belief in big goals

In my personal life I ….

Did 22 pull-ups straight

Mastered clapping pull-ups and one-arm pull-ups

Snowboarded for a total of 20 days in the winter

Ran 40-45 miles per week on average, with 3 lifts per week

Taught my 4-year-old to shred on double-black diamonds

Took my 7-year-old to her first worship concert

Had consistent weekly dates with my husband

Finally mastered a beautiful nighttime routine

Spent more focused quality time with my kids than ever before

But, ya’ll.

There was a lot on my to-do list that didn’t happen.

I failed on a lot of my business goals.

I didn’t sell as many copies of my book as I wanted.

I didn’t hit 100 book reviews like I had hoped (but you can still help with this)

I didn’t get a massage every month

I didn’t surf this summer

I didn’t do a family overnight in the RV

I didn’t even finish my list of 38 things … I only had a list of 28.

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR HAPPINESS LEVELS WHEN YOU DROP PERFECTIONISM

THEY SKYROCKET. 🙂

Joy increases.

Freedom to explore increases.

You compare yourself to your past self, NOT your ideal self.

What would happen if you looked at your goals as an adventure?

Let’s see what happens.

How can I make this fun?

Here we go!

Self-doubt is never a problem.

It’s a sign that you’re pursuing something that makes you feel alive.

The doubt only stops if you stop dreaming and stop setting goals.

Never stop dreaming and never stop setting goals.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR BRAIN AND WHAT MAKES IT SHIFT

Don’t be surprised by the thoughts your brain offers you.

Breaking past default patterns takes time.

THE GAP VERSUS THE GAIN

Perfectionism Mindset focuses on the gap of where you aren’t yet, Excellence Mindset focuses on what you have gained and how you have grown.

Excellent Routine:

-3 Gratitudes

-3 Wins From Today

-3 Work On’s for Tomorrow

-3 Ways You’ve Grown
