Heart full of Jesus – 5-stars, Your Minnesota Friend
Okay, Trish, I had to stop what I was doing and message you after hearing your review of the week the other day because wow. Not only did you have the guts to reveal to your audience a 1-star review, but you totally owned it. Everything you speak of comes from your heart. A heart full of compassion, kindness, and you said it, JESUS!!! And maybe that’s not for everybody, but for girls like me and I’m sure many others, it’s exactly waht we need in a world like this. A world where comparison, materilaism and hustling to the point of exahustion is all too common. Being a full-time interior deisnger, having my own photography biz and coaching college tennis at the age of 23 is a little crazy, I’ll admit. It wasn’t until this past July I realized I needed to slow dow nadn take care of myslf. Unfortunately, it took me being sick for amonty with mono for me to wake the hell up and make a change in my lifestyle. My competitive personality didn’t know how to slow down until I was forced to. There have also been tiems where I felt like a failure because i didn’t meet my own unrealistici expectations and it weighed on me more than it should have. The Confidence Podcast has helped me redirect my priorities that have been englected for too long and stand still in the love os Jesus. So Trish, THANK YOU for being transparent, sahring your story and helping me get back to the girl God created me to be. You are changing lives, but haters gonna hate. 10 starts. Blessings, your Minnesotan friend.
A word that has changed my life this year is the word “freedom.” And I just got it tattooed on my left arm – check it out by seeing the show notes at www.trishblackwell.com/370 or checking out my feed on Facebook or Instagram this week.
When I have a word on me, with me at all times, I feel it. It goes beyond just being a thought- it becomes part of me, part of my identity, and in my bones.
Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (NIV)
Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit – you choose (MSG)
Words give life or death.
Word choice – even the difference between “I” and “Trish” matter:
Psychologist Ethan Kross of the University of Michigan led the work, studying the pronouns people use when they talk to themselves silently, inside their minds.
“What we find,” Kross says, “is that a subtle linguistic shift — shifting from ‘I’ to your own name — can have really powerful self-regulatory effects.” https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2014/10/07/353292408/why-saying-is-believing-the-science-of-self-talk
Koss decided to do an experiment to see what would happen if nonfamous people were instructed to try the same technique.
He asked volunteers to give a speech — with only five minutes of mental preparation. As they prepped, he asked some to talk to themselves and to address themselves as “I.” Others he asked to either call themselves “you,” or to use their own names as they readied their speeches.
Kross says that people who used “I” had a mental monologue that sounded something like, ” ‘Oh, my god, how am I going do this? I can’t prepare a speech in five minutes without notes. It takes days for me to prepare a speech!’ ”
People who used their own names, on the other hand, were more likely to give themselves support and advice, saying things like, “Ethan, you can do this. You’ve given a ton of speeches before.” These people sounded more rational, and less emotional — perhaps because they were able to get some distance from themselves.
Words paint your life and make it richer or emptier.
Think about 2020 as the year – and decade – that you upgraded your words.

You’re a high-roller now, you keep better company, you have higher standards, you are more choosey – you are your words.

Choose yours.
Find ways to surround yourself with your word.
-Radio of your mind
-It’s always on – so make sure it’s tuned into what you want and to what will encourage your vision
-vision and vista
Dream big enough that you have to live by faith to see that dream come alive.
A dream that big is a vision – and visions are stirred in the soul, not the mind.
It doesn’t have to be easy, it just has to be possible.
All things are possible.
Have a vision proclamation with me:
I honor the past.
I am committed to the present.
I am dreaming of a better future.
What would happen if you dialed in and only used words – and thoughts – that serve you, that give you life, that build those around you up and that speak to your vision?

Jeremiah 23:3
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
The new year and new decade holds so many unknowns, and I have so many visions that overwhelm me — but God often gives us the vision – the what – before He gives us the “how.” And so when I don’t understand, or when doors of perceived opportunity close, or when I’m not sure how to get from point A to point Z, this has been comforting me. I don’t need to know it all – I just need to know the One who does. And those who ask for wisdom receive it – I look forward to this year being a year where I learn more great and unsearchable things. What an adventure life is, isn’t it my friends?
