HOW TO STOP SELF-SABOTAGE WHEN YOU’RE TIRED

Self-sabotage is the biggest hurdle keeping you from the results you want. Breaking the cycle of self-sabotage doesn’t come from “trying harder” but rather from “thinking differently” and with more clarity and confidence.

In this episode of The Confidence Podcast, we’re chatting about:

  • Why self-sabotage happens
  • The role shame plays in perpetuating self-sabotage
  • 10 tips to break the cycle for good

REVIEW OF THE WEEK:

Courtneya0730 – Big Changes – 5 Stars

Thanks to this show and Trish Blackwell, I am a more confident person. I have been listening to past episodes every day for around a month and I have noticed a huge change in my mindset. I’m thinking more positively and openly. But, I have to say, the biggest change I have seen is my smile! I’m no longer fake smiling for pictures! I feel so good listening to someone who “gets” me and points me in the right direction. Thank you, Trish, for all you are doing!

WHAT IS SELF-SABOTAGE AND WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?

Self-Sabotage manifests itself in a variety of ways, including but not limited to:

Over-eating

Over-drinking

Over-watching TV

Over-exhaustion

It also can be expressed by mindsets and lifestyles of:

An attitude of giving up

Believing that it doesn’t matter

Will-power exhaustion

Numbing through scrolling and comparison

Overwhelm over how far one has to go

THE ROLE OF SHAME IN THE CYCLE OF SELF-SABOTAGE

Self-Sabotage is Black/White Thinking … All or Nothing Mindset and the pressure of perfectionism and perfectionistic thinking perpetuate the cycle.

It is driven by guilt and shame.

“I choose peace, not pressure.”

Putting more pressure on yourself never works and never will.

To listen to coaching on exactly how to go into recovery and to enter “rehab” for perfectionism, be sure to listen to episode #335 of The Confidence Podcast on “Why Perfectionism Prevents You from Being Confident.”  (www.trishblackwell.com/335)

10 TIPS TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF SELF-SABOTAGE FOR GOOD:

  1. Stop depriving yourself!  (Deprivation sets us up for failure)
  2. Create a strong “Last 90 Minutes Routine”
  3. Camp out around the concept of grace
  4. Growth is everything – find gratitude for the lessons and nothing is wasted
  5. Overcome overwhem by not over-focusing on the finish line
  6. Get in the habit of champagne moments and momentum celebration
  7. Shatter your belief ceilings
  8. Choose peace, not pressure
  9. Be here, now (not in the future, not in the past, not in comparison)
  10. Recharge yourself intentionally and know your capacity

Real change doesn’t come from behavior modification but from heart transformation. Our habits are birthed from the beliefs we have and hold in our hearts.

LISTENER OF THE EPISODE:

Will Zabel, College of Confidence Member

Dear Trish, I got into your podcast, when I learned about podcasts. I have listened to about all from oct ’17 to present. My confidence has changed from the last 8 months, 12 months, 6 years and over 9 years ago. I am listening to you to see how I can make a better version of myself. My confidence has changed greatly over these last 9 years & I am listening to you to see if there are any more changes or am I on the right track. I got back into teaching after  6 years, and found out that I could still teach. (still standing for a particular job this next school year). I was successful in the classroom, but I could not keep up with what they required me to do, when the school did not provide the resources needed to do the job. Six years ago, I was let go from a teaching position that I had for 13 years. I really felt like a failure, as I identified myself as a teacher. (rather than as ‘A child of God’). My wife of 25 years passed away over 9 years ago, and I was not interested in any more changes at that time. Surprise, God had other plans for me.

I am at a job I am supposed to be, would not be here if I stayed at the last teaching job or the full-time job I had for 3 years before that.

It is good to know where you are supposed to be.
