THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

Slowing down and making time to meditate with intention is what changes us in our souls and minds from the inside out. Affirmations that focus on your goals and your happiness can help lift you up.

For years I resisted affirmations because I thought they were idealistic, and little goofy. But they’re not, they’re actually Biblical.

But the question is: how to know what mantra or affirmation you need to be dwelling on? They can range from happiness, to prosperity and to confidence?

From a faith perspective, you can find this answer by spending time with God, and by camping out in scripture. And, I get it, the Bible overwhelmed me. And still does sometimes, but it doesn’t have to read in its entirety to have life changing power upon you. In fact, one verse can change your life.  The Word of God is living and active.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12).

What I read in the Bible as an 8-year-old is different than what I read as an 18-year-old, 24-year-old, and now 36-year-old. There is no other explanation to me other than the truth that Hebrews 4:12 is true. It is alive.

So, how to find an affirmation for happiness that works for you?

  1. Talk to God.
  2. Silence your heart, mind and life to be able to listen to Him respond to you.
  3. Make time to read the Bible and to journal.
  4. When you feel drawn to something, “camp out there.”
  5. Make that verse your verse until you feel drawn to move on. Memorize it, write it, reread it. Milk it.

Now, how to really make the affirmation work for you and create that happiness today?

1. Memorize it.
2. Write it out.
3. Then write different versions of it.
4. Create a quick trigger to remind you of its power in your life.
5. Repeat it to yourself throughout the day, internally and out loud.
6. Look for signs of it manifesting.
7. Stay the course.

Isaiah 23:6

You will keep in perfect peace, those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Verse of the Week

Psalm 119:15-16

I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word.

Prayer of the Week

Father, Abba.

You love us with a faithful love, a love beyond our human comprehension. And you know us intimately. We come to you, humbled at your greatness and thankful for the ways in which you speak to us through our daily lives when we slow down enough to pay attention to your voice. We confess Lord that we are often overwhelmed. We yearn to hear your voice and to seek your wisdom, but the distraction and busyness captures our attention and keeps us from the simple truths we need to lock in on.

Guide us this week to know how to seek You. To open Your word with intention and openness, that we might be led to a word or verse that You have for us. And give us patience and the perseverance to lock in on it, to meditate upon it and to live it out in a way that we will not forget it. Let what we read become more than just an idea to us – let it become truth. We believe in healing and we are confident that you are actively transforming us.  In Psalm 16:8 David wrote: “I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Let us not be shaken, because we are grounding our lives, and more importantly, our minds and our thoughts in You. We are weak though and often overwhelmed, so make clear our paths and guide us with influences and inspiration that leads us back to you – that we might have the wisdom and strength to keep you in our heart and mind and at our center – that we might not be shaken.  You tell us in Psalm 104:34 that as we keep our meditation clear, that it might be pleasing to You, Lord, and that in that, we shall be glad. Thank you that the result of our focused meditation is joy. What a gift you give us through the power of our sound thoughts – thoughts that don’t have to come from us, but rather from You.

We seek you Lord and need your guidance. Reveal to us the affirmations, words, prayers and verse we need in our lives right now – we trust Your provision in this way, so that we might be able to confidently proclaim the words of Psalm 19:14 which say, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” May that be true in our lives from today forward Father.

We thank You and praise You for the wisdom, direction, healing and joy you pour into us.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
