Anytime you feel impatience arising within you, look at it as an opportunity to practice patience and to be stronger because of it.

PATIENCE IN SEASONS

I have struggled with patience in so many ways, some of which are:

-in waiting for my mom as a kid (embarrassed as I waited for her after lifeguarding … the real problem wasn’t impatience, it was fear of what others thought)

-in waiting to meet my husband (my brother and all my friends got married at 22 … and I found myself single at 27, resigned myself to never meeting anyone)

-in waiting for prayers to be answered in regards to things happening in my family

-in waiting for my dreams to work out as I built my platform and my writing reach (waiting on a book deal, building social media, resisting the temptation to compare yourself to others)

-in my own healing and personal growth – wanting to be further along than I was at the time

-in my pregnancy, oh my gosh, right?

THE PRACTICE OF PATIENCE

  1. Write about it.
  2. Talk about it.
  3. Actively embrace a challenge where you practice it.
  4. Track your small wins.
  5. Let someone go before you in line.
  6. Engage your breathing intentionally.
  7. Open more time in your day – create time abundance.
  8. Remind yourself that your dream will unfold as it is supposed to.
  9. Celebrate your growth milestones and how far you have come.
  10. Trust that the things you are waiting for will happen – proclaim that.
  11. Keep showing up fully in life, every day.
  12. Stop using the phrase “I’m so busy”
  13. Stay in your own lane and don’t compare yourself to others – be in your life and in the present.

THE PATTERN TO BREAK TO INCREASE YOUR PATIENCE

Comparison!!

Comparison takes you away from the present, and patience only exists in the present.

Comparison convinces you that others have it better than you, causing you to feel unsettled and inpatient with where you are at.

BEING PATIENT WITH OTHERS

  1. Remember that not everyone is working on self-awareness and growth the way you are, let them make decisions and actions in their own time.
  2. Honor timelines and timeliness – and tell others that you value that – but then understand that some people still prescribe to their “busy” lives and don’t realize that they have the power to change that. Be patient with them.
  3. Focus on being in the present – if it isn’t going to matter in five years, don’t waste more than five minutes on it.
