Inspired from a great message in church this morning on the concept of courage, I’ve spent the afternoon thinking about the seven-letter word and its role in my life and in the lives of those I love. Courage is quite possibly one of the most monumental traits that we can choose to develop and engage within ourselves and it is a trait that has the potential to transform our lives entirely.
The only way to lose in life is to not begin. The only way to fail or fall short of your dream is to not have the courage to try. Often, we actually have more courage than we realize, but we never initiate it or engage it to allow it the chance to even carry us, which is why I love what Benjamin Mee says in We Bought a Zoo. Twenty seconds of insane courage is all we need. Just twenty seconds on any given day can change the trajectory of our lives and our impact on others completely.
We were all made for something great but not all of us have the courage to take action. From personal experience I know that I sometimes allow my self-consciousness, my fear, my insecurities, and my self-doubt to justify cowering from the bold actions in life that I feel called to do, and I believe that we all hide from our own greatness behind a similar wall of fear. How fantastic is it that all we need is to muster up a mere twenty seconds of insane courage to push down and demolish the walls in life that hold us back?
The next time you are procrastinating, cowering, nervous or making excuses for your lack of action, think about taking the plunge into twenty seconds of insane courage. With just twenty seconds of courageous faith and bold action we can all knock down mountains that we have been trying to climb for years on end, and the potential of the influence that we can make in this world and upon our own happiness will be limitless like the skies.
If you aren’t proactively aware of your employment of courage in your life, then this is your week to start. No matter how busy you are, you will always have time for twenty seconds to give yourself the opportunity to begin your dreams.
