Coaching your confidence and courage to that you finish what you start and contribute to the world in a way that matters.
In this week’s episode of Confidence on the Go, we’re chatting with Glennon Doyle Melton about her newest book, Love Warrior and dig into:
Just a quick hello to all of my Keep the Faith listeners out there – thanks for being part of the community of contagious encouragement.
I am proud to be an educator and consultant for Beautycounter, a B-Corp company on a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. The lack of regulation in the personal care and cosmetic industry is astounding and it is harming our health in very serious ways. We need more voices to join up on our mission. If you want to put your passion to purpose while being generously compensated, then I would love to start a conversation with you about what it means to be involved in the #saferbeauty tribe that is Beautycounter. Join the movement of #betterbeauty and message me via email to make your voice really resonate for a cause.
For twenty years Glennon was lost to bulimia and alcoholism and bad love and drugs. She suffered. Her family suffered. She had a relatively magical childhood, which added an extra layer of guilt to her pain and confusion. Glennon – why are you all jacked up when you have no excuse to be all jacked up?
Her best guess is that she was born with an extra dose of sensitivity to love and pain. She didn’t want to walk through the battlefield of life naked. So when she was ten years old, she made up her own little world called addiction and she hid there for decades. She felt safe. No one could touch her.
On Mother’s Day 2002, unwed and addicted, she found herself holding a positive pregnancy test. For the first time in her life – she wanted something more than she wanted to be number. She decided to become a mother and vowed to never again have another drink, cigarette, drug, unhealthy relationship or food binge. She found herself marrying her son’s father.
She’s the mother of three kids, two mutts, the community of Momastery truth tellers, is a Sunday School teacher, and an award-winning blogger.
Glennon Doyle Melton is the author of the New York Times bestseller Carry On, Warrior and the founder of the online community Momastery, where she reaches more than one million people each day. She is also the creator and president of Together Rising, a nonprofit organization that has raised close to five million dollars for families around the world through its Love Flash Mobs, which have revolutionized online giving. Glennon is a sought-afer public speaker and her work has been featured on The TODAY Show, The Talk, OWN, NPR; and in The New York Times, Ladies’ Home Journal, Glamour, Familiy Circle, Parents Magazine, Newsweek, Woman’s Day, The Huffington Post; and in other television and print outlets. Glennon lives in Florida with her family. Underneath and on top of all that she’s a Recovering Everything. She’s prouder of that title than she is of any other. Every morning she opens her eyes and immediately understand that she is still that girl on the bathroom floor, holding that pregnancy test like a tarrying invitation, trying to decide whether to stay down on the cold floor or get up and show up for her life.
Most days she decides to show up, because she was right when she was little. Life is brutal. But it’s also beautiful. Brutiful, she calls it. Life’s brutal and beautiful are woen together so tightly that they can’t be separated. Reject the brutal, reject the beauty. So now she embraces both, and she lives well, and hard, and real.
LOVE WARRIOR is about infidelity, betrayal and redemption. It’s about how our ideals of femininity and masculinity can make it impossible for a woman and a man to actually know each other. It’s about how to use crisis as a springboard to a truer identity and a better life. It’s about parenting our kids through pain. It’s about friendships that hurt and friendships that heal. It’s about faith that shackles women and faith that liberates women. It’s about how to finally find peace in your own damn skin. It’s about shameless sex, God, food, drugs, porn and tenderness—and how the dirt and the divine are so often inseparable.
“This is a book about what it means to be human—to wrestle with love, hurt, addiction, vulnerability, intimacy, and grace. Love Warrior blew me away. We can all find pieces of our own stories reflected in Glennon’s powerful words. We are so lucky to have her courage and wisdom in the world. We need this kind of truth-telling if we are ever going to find our way back to each other.” BRENÉ BROWN / #1 New York Times bestselling author of Rising Strong and Daring Greatly
I started this confidence coaching journey because originally I wanted to help people find freedom from body image issues – I wanted to share strategies on how to learn how to have body confidence; now, this has obviously morphed into more than that, but I have a heart for my core … body confidence.
